We are BoneClaw, based out of Rockford Il
Matt Huff – Vocals
Scott Speck – Drums
Zak Hernandez – Guitar
Kody Urbin – Bass
MPM: How long has the band been together? Were you in any other bands before this?
Scott and Matt (commonly refered to as Huff) have been looking to work together for at least 7 years. After a few other attempted projects BoneClaw came together in 2023. Scott has played in a few bands (Static Signal and Born Into Exile to name a few) Huff is the Vocalist for Reckless Redemption. Kody was previously the Vocalist for Wi band Living Inside Fearless Entropy. And Zak played Bass in the band MYOHMY
MPM: When is the new material coming out and what is the album’s name if you have one? is there a release date yet? Where was it recorded at?
We dropped our first single a few weeks ago titled “Baptized In Oblivion” we have our next single recorded but havent landed on a date yet. Currently working on writing a handful of tracks for a larger release after our next single. We recorded our singles with Brad Dausman at AngryMan Productions out of McHenry Il
MPM: Do you have any shows or tours coming up?
No shows yet as were still fairly new and in the early stages of our band. But trust us when we say that once we’re ready we’ll be coming out swinging. Some bands jump on the stage as soon as possible and while we respect that, we are going to be sure our live show is one you’ll enjoy and remember!!
MPM: Tell me about what this album or track is about. What’s the inspiration behind the writing of the new material?
The lyrical content for Baptized In Oblivion is basically about lucifur descending from heaven. As for the other songs we really don’t have a theme that we’ve stuck with, every song has a different story to tell. A little sneak peak into our next single, Basically a guy that can communicate and interact with the dead. But eventually they take advantage of him and possess him ultimately leading to his own death.
MPM: What’s the writing process like? is there a main songwriter or is it more of a collaborative effort?
In a very simplified description, Zak puts together a base track/idea and brings it to the table, we jam on it as a group and solidify our ideas while Huff forms the theme and writes the lyrics. For Baptized, once we tracked it Kody sat down and worked on the added sounds (Choir, horns, ambient sounds, ect.) That’s currently what works best for us and give us easy a solid amount of influence in each song.
MPM: Do you guys hold a day job when you are not touring or recording? Would you mind saying what you do for a living?
Huff works full time as a Union Insulator
Zak works full time in a body shop making cars look good.
Scott works full time as Door Manufacurer
Kody is a full time Stay-at-Home Dad taking care of his 3 kids (In his spare time he streams on twitch under the name KodyKarkus)
MPM: Do you have any funny or bizarre show or tour stories you’d like to share?
Not yet with this band but we’re sure the shenanigans will be coming soon enough.
MPM: If you could collaborate with anyone in or out of your genre who would that be and why?
(Huff) Definitely would wanna collaborate with some of deathcores big time vocalist Phil Bozeman, Adam Warren, Dickie Allen, Alex Terrible, etc.
(Kody) Id Love to do some wild Deathcore/Dubstep crossover with Excision or someone similar.
(Scott) I’d like to collaborate with Big Chocolate for a sick deathcore/dubsteb crossover, or Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox would also be a dope feature… oh also would like to collab with Mark Poida, if youre out there reading this, we wanna feature you on a song lmao
(Zak) Vulvodynia cause they could help me learn how to actually play guitar.
MPM: What are some musical inspirations?
(Huff) Some bands that have influenced from the time I started listening to Metal are Slipknot, Lamb of God, Suicide Silence, etc.
(Kody) I grew up on bands like Godsmack and Metallica. Eventually growing into heavier stuff like Asking Alexandria and As I Lay Dying into stuff like Emmure and Brand of Sacrifice.
(Scott) my main musical inspiration is Joey Jordison from Slipknot RIP, also a big fan of Luke Holland, Anup Sastry and Aversions Crown
(Zak) Bad omens bilmuri vulvodynia vrsty archspire osiah Chris turner
MPM: What would be your ideal tour lineup? What bands would you love to tour with?
(Huff) WhiteChapel, Oceano, Left to Suffer, Alpha wolf, BoneClaw
(Kody) Crazy out there one off show, Emmure, Limp Bizkit, Electric Callboy, BoneClaw lmao. But honestly there are some awesome Wi bands I’d like to get some short runs with like ELSWHR and Errors of Humanity, also would be sick to play with VCTMS again
(Scott) Probably the same as everyone elses, would be sick to tour with Currents, Alpha Wolf, VCTMS, Oceano, Brand Of Sacrifice, Reflections etc
MPM: What are your favorite songs to play live?
We are very excited to play shows all in due time, Huffs favorite to play so far is Manifest//Death
MPM: What are some of your hobbies besides making music?
I think its safe to say we all enjoy Video Games
MPM: Are there any people you’d like to thank?

A massive thank you to the people we’ve worked with Brad Dausman (recording mixing, mastering) Andik Godfinger (Album Art) and In Gloom Media (Lyric Video) Mike Lowy (Logo and Sigil Art)
