ANASTASYA – Diary From Darkness

a

ANASTASYA is an Indonesian Gothic Metal band from Jakarta. The band formed in 2009 and after time has passed, they released probably their greatest work to date titled Diary From Darkness. The band has honed their own sound blending unique female vocals with fast paced drums and guitar riffs almost similar to power metal. The band also contributes a unique and surprisingly well done cover of Cradle of Filth’s “Nymphetamine.”

The album has a mixture of everything that you could ask for in Gothic Metal. Keyboards play part to haunting melodies that dance around the guitars and rhythmically complex drums as Jasmine’s vocals complete the mix with her amazing range at times even sounding operatic. Tracks like “Heaven Black” and “Born Ov Beauty” stand out with their synth intros and perfect display of musicianship. Respectively, the album in it’s entirety has no flaws and is a strong release as a whole.

With all this said, the band has surely made their mark and could be seen as the next upcoming Gothic Metal group to follow in the footsteps of Nightwish, Within Temptation and Epica. I hope to personally see them make it in the metal scene because they have made the right choice starting young and taking a leap into the spotlight. If you are a fan of epic female vocals, fast paced musicianship and virtuoso song structures, this album is for you.
