AZARATH – In Extremis

Polish blackened death metal behemoths Azarath return six years later to present In Extremis, released in April through Agonia Records. For those who may not know, Inferno from Behemoth is on drums in this band but by no means is this just “Inferno’s other band” or “side project.” Azarath has been a force in the scene since 1998 and continues strong with this offering. Now with six years of silence, does this album hold up to 2011’s Blasphemer’s Maledictions? Hell yes it does! This album is fast, fierce, unrelenting and pure anger.

Each track is pure face-melting evil but tracks such as Annihilation (Smite All The Illusions) and Parasu Blade show just how powerful of a force Azarath truly is. With blistering drumming as can be expected by Inferno, chaotic and fierce guitars by Bart and Marcin, heavy bass work from the bowels of hell by Peter and otherworldly vocal ranges by Marcin, this album truly rivals that of Behemoth. It is expected with Inferno in the band for many to say that Azarath and Behemoth sound so close but honestly, this album could beat some of Behemoth’s recent work. If you are a fan of Belphegor, Behemoth, Krisiun or just perfected blackened death metal, this album is a must and it would be an injustice to not check out In Extremis.

Overall Score: 9.5/10
