MOONLIGHT SORCERY – Piercing Through The Frozen Eternity

Melodic black metal crafters Moonlight Sorcery is one of those bands in the genre that I personally believe deserve so much more credibility and support. This band from Finland been around since 2018 and have released the debut EP, Piercing Through The Frozen Eternity which is released through Avantgarde Music. Stylistically and musically, Moonlight Sorcery plays a mythological and nature themed style of melodic black metal but they also have emphasis on incorporating symphonic metal driven melodies in which their soundscapes, atmosphere and adrenaline in making music that feels cold, despairing and artistic really sets the listener into a cold, isolated journey to make you travel back in time during the first wave black metal timeline.
Knowing this style of music, their compositions and creativity is sensational making every instrumental feel appropriate and the mixing on here gives it that misanthropic approach which makes the songs feel tight, cohesive and progressive at times. Songs like For Thy Light Is Ice and Hauta-alttari are heavily inspired in having these really unique heavy metal signatures well as the vocal deliveries and thundering drums give it that Scandinavian melodic death metal totality in which these tracks are directly reflected in which this case these members showcased their influences in writing a short, well produced album that has tons of potential years down the road.
Even the artwork does represent the themes nicely done since this album is a symphonic spell casting touch to have darkness and mesmerizing melodies that reminded me of early Emperor, Windir and Far Away From The Sun era Sacramentum in many ways possible. Piercing Through The Frozen Eternity is a wonderfully crafted and adventurous record that every fan of melodic black metal needs in their catalog.
