ALGHAZANTH – Eight Coffin Nails

Many black metal bands come and go, most we don’t even know that they have broken up or anything. The worst is when a band we love announces their break up with nothing to leave us with. Thank goodness Finland’s majestic black metal group Alghazanth did not do that. With their eighth and final album Eight Coffin Nails, they left all their listeners in probably the most perfect way any band could. I could honestly end this review right here […]

UNITED – Absurdity

Thrash metal is a genre with many big names in it from bands like Exodus, Testament, Metallica, Slayer…the list goes on but there are always bands from those eras that some seem to either forget or just not talk about unless you are part of the underground. That goes for Tokyo’s United. Started in 1981, the group started as a Judas Priest cover band (hence their name) but then adopted thrash influences by the time they released their debut, which […]

BLOOD AND THUNDER – The Necromancer’s Cantos

Melodic Death Metal band Blood And Thunder have truly became one of my absolute favorite, if not one of the most strongest and well acted bands in today’s scene. Hailing from the depths of my precious hometown in Seattle, Washington these guys take musical inspirations from Children Of Bodom, Wintersun, Kalmah and other Gothenburg outfitters. From the soaring keyboard signatures, thundering blast beats, well produced vocal deliveries, structured bass tones and wolfishly attitudes of barbed melodies, The Necromancer’s Cantos is […]

OBSCURA – Diluvium

Germany’s very own Obscura has came a long way to create artistic and stylistic branches of technical and progressive death metal signatures since 2002. Dilivium, is the latest installment from these Germans after where 2016’s Akróasis left off. Musically, they’ve emphasized rhythmic variety in Guitar riffs, intelligent lyrics, simultaneous harmonies of Bass and Drums and doesn’t rehash older materialistic sound. Not only this is jam packed with outer space and philosophy lyricism, but the hint of heavy balances of instrumentals, […]

HATE ETERNAL – Upon Desolate Sands

The Floridian death metal scene is home to legendary outfitters such as Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Death, Malevolent Creation, and Monstrosity. Hate Eternal, a band who simply does not need any introductions required has been making killer music since 1997. From the influential albums such as 1999’s Conquering The Throne to perhaps the best Hate Eternal album and my personal favorite the band has ever done that being 2005’s I, Monarch, Upon Desolate Sands is Hate Eternal’s strongest and […]

GRAVE UPHEAVAL – Untitled II

Founded by some of the members from Portal, Impetuous Ritual and Temple Nightshade, Grave Upheaval is a death metal band hailing from the depths of Queensland, Australia and have immersed themselves to create, if not the most heaviest death metal album I’ve heard in 2018. The atmosphere, craftsmanship, lyricism, production and musical structures is the feeling where the listener has something taken for a instant gratification and delivers your craving for a unknown and spiraling visions to make vile soundscapes […]

CHTHONIC Hong Kong Performance Cancelled Due To Visa Denial

Taiwanese symphonic black metal band Chthonic were to perform at On The Pulse Of Music Festival in Hong Kong but had to cancel their appearance due to frontman Freddy Lim’s visa being denied. The reason, apparently, is because the singer didn’t “possess a special skill, knowledge or experience of value”. More can be read below. This would not have been the first time Chthonic would have performed in Hong Kong, though, as they have performed previously at Chokenflap 2014. This […]

Arch Enemy‘s current front-woman Alissa White-Gluz and former front-woman/current manager Angela Gossow are under fire from Metal Blast after they’ve chosen to ban Metal Blast’s own J Salmeron from photographing all future performances of the band. The ban stems from a dispute with both White-Gluz and Gossow and the photographer who published a photograph of White-Gluz at Fortarock festival. Salmeron noticed that his photograph of White-Gluz was appropriated by the merchandise company Thunderball Clothing and used for marketing their products […]

THE ANTARCTICA PROJECT Release New Single

Chile-based progressive metalcore band The Antarctica Project have released a new single, titled “Ominous Valley”. The song is textbook progressive metalcore/djent, so if you don’t like that, this won’t win you over. However, it’s a great djent song, and should be right up anyone’s alley who enjoys this style. About the single, the band had the following to say: “Ominous Valley is finally available. The release of this song means the beginning of a new stage to this band. We’d […]
